Who are you?

My name is Amber Peters, but I go by Mizz P. I am an education consultant, author, and app developer that was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and raised in the Bronx, New York since I was two months old. I’m a certified teacher and college counselor with over 13 years of experience. (College and career counseling stole my heart!) I have energy for days (I can’t turn it off…trust me I’ve tried). And I absolutely love music and learning all of the newest dance crazes!

Why did you decide to start your business?

I wanted to be able to serve students, parents, and direct service providers in my own special way. I got tired of using antiquated materials and methodologies that didn’t work and always had to create my own tools to support the students I had the pleasure to serve. I started to see so much progress in my students so I decided to build a business around my methods to expand my reach.

How do you keep yourself motivated?

I keep my student’s stories (positive or negative) in the forefront of my mind. They are essentially why I am compelled to do this work and why I work so hard. 

What’s your secret?

I’m super relatable and I keep it 100% real! No hiding information, no sugarcoating, just pure unadulterated truth. I have a personal investment in this work because I was a first-generation college student that had both a low income and middle-income experience. I use my story to show families what’s possible and give them resources to help them sidestep the barriers.

What impact do you think your company will have in the future?

I see my business having a huge impact on the way people plan for the future. I see more confident students, more confident parents, and adults who are supportive in both efforts. I see lots of doors opening and more importantly lots of minds opening to all possibilities. My message will spread nationwide and will hopefully provide a better model for others to follow.
